World news is any type of news story concerning events that occur outside the United States. World news often covers current affairs, international relations and terrorism. It also includes political news, sports news and business news. World news is usually covered by the local, regional and national news divisions of major television networks, although some larger newspapers may have dedicated foreign news sections. There are several different types of journalists who specialize in world news: foreign correspondents, special envoys and news agency writers.
World News Now (often shortened to WNN) is an overnight news program that is currently broadcast by ABC News. It is aired Monday through Friday at 2:30 AM ET on most ABC stations. It is tape delayed for a number of stations. WNN also airs a morning counterpart, Good Morning America First Look. Unlike most ABC news programs, which focus on serious news stories, WNN is known for its lighthearted and irreverent tone.
The program is unique for its use of interactive segments. Throughout the show, viewers can send in questions or comments via e-mail, with the anchors responding to some of them (often in a humorous manner). WNN was also a training ground for future news presenters; many people who have worked on the program went on to higher-profile positions at other networks and/or local affiliates.
In addition to these regular segments, World News Now regularly features rebroadcasts of other ABC News shows. These include a rebroadcast of Live with Kelly and Ryan, Daytime Jeopardy! and Tamron Hall. Occasionally, World News Now also rebroadcasts an entire sportscast.
